I have not been sick for about a year now, not even the smallest cold. Its been so long that when my daughter got a cold last week, I felt there was no way I could catch it so I was not the least bit careful.

Well I got it bad now! Achey runney nose yateh yateh ya!

But the bad part is I am flying to Toronto tomorrow til Friday.

What medications do you guys find the most effective for these symtoms??? Long term chicken soup plans just won't cut it since I am airborne by mid afternoon.

Some years ago (about 7) Bayer had a pill (Bayer One or something like it)that was amazing, I would take one and I would have know idea I ever had a cold. I gave some to some of my fellow workers with the same effect. It was taken off the market, just too good to be true.

Massive doses of vitamin C and zinc along with Echinacea, but there's nothing that will fix you up by tomorrow. Even the best remedies will shorten a colds duration by only a day or two at most. If you're flying you need to avoid sinus pain caused by pressure changes so take antihistamines before the flight. I find Nyquil helps me to sleep. ....

Sudafed if your sinus's are not too bad and actefed if you are really stopped up. Always worked for me while I was on flight status. Helicopters don't have pressurized cockpits so getting on top of a cold was pretty important for me. The massive dose vitamin C may help some but you are still going to feel like crap for a few days but at least you head won't feel like it will blow up in flight. Do you know how to valsava to equalize the pressure in your ears if you have too? Remember that commercial airline cabin pressurization only pressurizes to 8,000 ft. PA. That definitely helps. Hope you are feeling better soon Dennis. ....

Try this and it really works, for two days anyways.#1,get drunk,I mean really drunk.#2,the next day you will feel so bad that you will forget you got a cold. You can repeat as nessasary, but only experienced drunks like myself should attempt this more than twice in a week,or teenagers. My fix works on me in 12 hours, everytime. I get in the sauna for an hour, sit in front of the fireplace with a good book & a couple fo Drambuie's on ice, then off to bed. When I get up the cold is gone, and apparently, I feel a LOT better than Richard does, LOL.

BTW, the coffee is on me when you get to Toronto.

Best of luck. ....

Alka Seltzer Plus cold medication works best for me. The vitamans and Echinacea are good for building up your resistance in the first place. Echinacea only builds up your immune system temporarily, so you should not take it all the time or it becomes ineffective. Washing your hands a lot is key during the cold and flu season. A lot of viruses are spread by direct contact with people and surfaces and then passed on by handling food or wiping your nose or eyes with the same hand. ....

I used to get at least one cold/flu/whatever each year that would put me down and out for 10 days to 2 weeks. I tried everything: echinacea, C, zinc, etc. etc. None of that stuff ever had even the least effect.

Last year I found out about Zicam, a zinc-based nasal gel which is clinincally proven to stop colds. I didn't believe it, but sure enough, it stopped a major cold dead in its tracks, and has worked just as well for everyone I've told about it.

You can find it in any drugstore chain, costs about $8-9 for enough to CURE 2 colds. ....

This sounds like alot of practicing medicine without a license. LOL Nothing will work the same for all but, some good ideas here with the supplements and OTC meds (except maybe rich's)LOL again. Oil of oregano is very good. Manual therapy over the sinuses will drain them in a hurry. ....
